A Journey Marked by Scripture, Calling, and Fire
My story began with a Bible.
When I was in junior high, my parents gave me my first full-version Bible. That Bible became more than a book to me. I carried it with me into college, and while taking courses, studying, and preparing for my future, I continued reading it every night. Long before that, when I was a child spending the night with my grandparents, they would read the Bible to me before I went to sleep. The Word of God was planted in me early, and over time, that seed began to shape the direction of my life.
In 1994, I graduated from The Ohio State University with a degree in chemical engineering. But even while building a professional career, there was another calling already burning beneath the surface.
My ministry journey began in 1986 as a teenager doing street ministry in Huntington, West Virginia. While attending New Life Church, I participated in street plays and skits, sharing the message of the gospel in a bold and public way. Those early years taught me that ministry was not meant to stay hidden behind walls. It was meant to reach people where they were.In 2002, my life took an unexpected turn. I did not step into ministry because I was looking for a platform. I simply visited a church. What began as a visitation turned, within one week, into something I never expected. A set of circumstances unfolded beyond anything I had planned or imagined, and within one week, I was preaching for the first time.
That moment shook me. I knew I had been placed in something much bigger than myself, but I also knew I was not ready. I needed training. I needed covering. I needed to be developed.
Within a couple of weeks, I attended another church to hear a special speaker, and once again, I was caught off guard by what happened. It became clear that God was moving me into a season I had not chosen, but one I could not ignore.
Then, in August of 2002, the facility where I worked announced it was closing. What looked like a disruption became one of the clearest turns in my history. That closing did not end the journey; it pushed me into the next season of training, preparation, and hands-on ministry. I did not fully understand it at the time, but that moment became a doorway. It moved me from where I had been comfortable into the place where I would be trained, stretched, corrected, and developed for everything that was coming next.
By the fall of 2002, I had moved to a new city and walked into a start-up church meeting in a carpet store with about forty-five people. The pastor and I became close friends quickly, and the ministry placed in my hands brought me into contact with thousands of people. That season became a turning point. The church began to grow at an incredible rate, and my real hands-on training began.
At the same time, in 2002, I started seminary and maintained a 4.0 GPA. I began taking extensive notes, studying deeply, and learning from extraordinary mentors who poured wisdom, discipline, and spiritual understanding into my life. I owe much of what I carry today to the people God placed around me in that season.
Over time, I began converting the teachings, conversations, revelations, and lessons I had received from mentors, along with things I remembered from earlier seasons of my life, into teaching outlines and preaching notes. Those notes became a treasury of material that would later shape books, songs, and ministry messages.
The poem “Spirit of Fire” first came in 2002, but the song concept was not written until 2021. That year became another major turning point.
In 2021, a friend invited me to speak at a tent ministry. I was hesitant, but I went anyway. It was also my first time using Facebook. Some young men helped set it up for me, and almost immediately, something unexpected happened. The message began spreading, and in one night, I started receiving thousands of friend requests from people around the world.
That same year, my pastor encouraged me to write books. A close friend encouraged me as well. So I went back to a set of preaching notes I had kept for nearly ten years. I dug those old notes out of my closet, began updating them, turned them into teachings, and eventually transformed those teachings into books.
Then another creative door opened. I began taking old poems I had written to teach biblical truths and started adding sound to them. Those poems became songs.
What began as a Bible in the hands of a young boy became a journey of ministry, teaching, writing, music, and message. It has been a road of unexpected turns, divine appointments, powerful mentors, hard lessons, and moments that only God could have arranged.
This history is not just about where I have been.
It is about the fire that has carried me here.
